A 23-year-old Panamanian registered bulk carrier, Gemini, was inspected off the Port of Cape Town at the weekend after a fire had broken out in one of her holds.
The 27 000dwt vessel, carrying a cargo of wheat from Argentina to the Far East, declined services offered by Godfrey Needham of Offshore Management Services and sailed on to Durban several hours later.
Needham told FTW that while there would most certainly be some fire damage to the cargo no sign of damage to the
vessel was spotted.
