Independent oil and gas companies are increasingly looking at African oil and gas projects as the majors in the sector remain focused on the energy transition.According to Gil Holzman, president and CEO of Eco Atlantic Oil and Gas, major oil companies have been focusing heavily on holding fewer larger but younger assets, and transitioning their plants to meet decarbonisation goals – while exploration has also taken a different approach. It’s now far narrower and involves either existing projects or deep water sites.“This has created a space for the independents who can bring smaller projects online that can be very beneficial to the project sector on the continent,” he said. The company has been active in Namibia for 12 years and is now also involved in the Orange Basin in South Africa where its strategy is to find viable small-scale opportunities.
