Far East lines hike rates

THE LINES on the SA-Far East trade have decided to implement a general rates increase of US$200 for a 20-foot (6-metre) container, and US$400 for a 40-ft (12-m).
Sources inside Safari - the major ship-sharing agreement on the trade - indicated that the conference felt that market conditions of supply-and-demand had warranted an increase. The first such opportunity for some years, it was added.
The date of imposition was still to be revealed when this issue went to press.
It will almost certainly have been applied before the publication date of May 4.
