Exporters to the EU take note

EXPORTERS SENDING goods to the European Union (EU) must produce either a Movement Certificate (EUR1) or an invoice declaration in cases where the ex-works value of the goods does not exceed Euro 6000.
The South African Chamber of Business (SACOB) has pointed out that the EURI certificates must be obtained at customs offices. The forms are pre-printed and uniquely numbered. Customs will then issue the exporter with a quantity of certificates depending on the volume to be exported.
Chamber members have been warned that the onus is on the exporter to ensure that goods comply with the Rules of Origin and that the criteria for the issuing of EUR1 certificates are complied with fully.
Customs has established teams to implement the Rules of Origin under the Free Trade Agreement. These involve audit investigation officers and certification officers.
