Europe’s largest port sees drop in cargo throughput

The Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands has seen a 3% drop in cargo handling for the first six months (H1) of 2016,compared to the same period last year.

The Port of Rotterdam Authority said in a press statement that the most pronounced decrease was in the dry bulk segment (-9.9%) and although the port had handled a slightly lower volume of bulk liquid (-1.1%), the volume of crude oil and oil products were at an “historical high”.

On the other hand, the port’s container throughput increased by 2.3% for H1.
