THE EMIRATES Group has acquired a Cougar cargo automation system that it says will revolutionise the way it does business. The system was brought to SA by Mercator. Senior Mercator g.m. Hugh Pride says the system is one of the most advanced currently available.

We are excited that Emirates Sky Cargo is our launch customer, he says.

They will be able to react quickly and cost effectively through their Skynet service to meet changing needs in the cargo business. Through Skynet, Emirates will be able to react quickly to changing customer needs. The service will go Ôlive' in May next year giving the airline real-time communication with its clients.

Emirates senior g.m. cargo Ram Menen says the system will be accessible to participants in the supply chain, for instance, the shipper, freight forwarder and consignee.

It will be rather like a pipeline along which information will flow, Menen says. It will lock into other similar pipelines to provide a smooth flow of information through the whole supply chain.
