EDI a top priority for new SAAFF chief

NEWLY APPOINTED executive director of the SA Association of Freight Forwarders, Edward Little, brings to the position a wealth of experience in the clearing and forwarding industry gained from a legal perspective.

Born in Buenos Aires, his education spanned three continents - primary education in the Argentine, secondary education in Rhodesia, and tertiary education in Ireland where he completed a Bachelor of Law degree at University College Dublin.

After qualifying as a barrister, he settled in South Africa where he joined the Chamber of Mines legal department in 1964. Thereafter, having joined Boart and Hard Metal Products he was transferred to Anglo American Corporation and spent two years with the Zamco Consortium where he was involved in negotiating the general terms and conditions of contract of the Cabora Bassa project.

Once the negotiations were over and the contract had been signed he was seconded to Anglo American Australia where he spent a year and a half in Melbourne. Shortly after his return to South Africa he joined Freight Services as legal adviser and national credit manager where he remained until the merger with Rennies, leaving to set up on his own as a credit management consultant within the clearing and forwarding industry.

He will continue to run this business, built up over the past 10 years, concurrently with his new post.

Among the pressing issues which Little will address during his term of office will be the speeding up of electronic data interchange, particularly in relation to Customs.

Affable and highly approachable, Little enjoys tennis and classical music in his limited spare time.
