eAccount and eFiling Account Management System Postponed

The South African Revenue Service (Sars) announced on 15 February that it had postponed the introduction of eAccount functionality on efiling and the roll-out of the new account management system. The notice reads: The implementation of a new Account Management system, which is currently rolling out to all Customs offices, has been postponed for the next few weeks. It was earmarked to be introduced at the Pretoria, Johannesburg and Germiston offices this weekend and various other offices next weekend (including Durban and Ortia Cargo). However, this has now been placed on hold until a date yet to be announced. The rollout of new eAccount functionality on eFiling – which was due to be introduced this weekend – has now been postponed indefinitely. The eAccount is aimed at providing Customs clients with the tools to independently manage their accounts and effect releases for payable declarations. We will communicate more details on this next week. Last year the new account management system was introduced at 18 Customs offices, primarily the smaller land borders, while this year it has been rolled out to the various Western Cape Customs and Excise offices For more information on the new Account Management System, including guides on the new Statement of Account and the new payment process, go to the Customs Modernisation page (www.sars.gov.za > customs & excise > customs > customs modernization.
