A UNIQUE new train loading station is due to be handed over to the Dry Bulk Terminal at the Port of Richards Bay within the next three weeks. According to Portnet the unit is unique and in the forefront of material handling plant technology.
It is the only one anywhere in the world designed to handle totally different products such as sulphur, coking coal and fertilisers into a wide variety of rail trucks. The unit comes equipped with a water spray cleaning system that can effectively clean the surge bin, weigh flask and profile chute in less than ten minutes. The new unit should be able to operate at up to 2500 tons an hour depending on the feed to the wagon loader, and work is underway to improve rail track capacities to help it reach its full potential.
