Details are still coming through about a truck driver who was robbed at gunpoint at Mooi River Toll Plaza en route to Johannesburg this morning.
According to the Transit Assistance Bureau (Transist), the truck was making its way north on the N3 at the time of the armed robbery.
Several items were stolen from the driver including cash meant to pay tolls, his work suit, cellphone and personal possessions.
The incident comes at a time when the peril truckers face on South African roads is back in the spotlight.
This after Freight News carried a post yesterday in which Rhenus Logistics reported that truck hijackings had gone up by 32% in the past year.
It quoted data by German market and consumer researcher Statista, which found that 1 202 truck hijackings had occurred between April 2019 and March last year.
