On 13 November 2023, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) announced that the South African Traveller Management System (SATMS) had been updated to include the application of the SATMS at sea and land ports.
As part of the Customs Modernisation Programme, Customs implemented the SATMS only at airports as the first phase of the project. The second phase included the implementation of the SATMS at sea and land ports, which has now been finalised.
