CSC stable carries off several international awards

THIRTY NEW Clark high reach and counterbalance forklifts will shortly move into the Cargo Service Center (CSC) warehouses at Johannesburg International Airport. "It's all part of our commitment to customer service," says station manager Derek Hughes. "We've just emerged from a very busy and productive six months," says Hughes. "The company has re-signed five of its main carriers, a direct compliment to the service we provide at JIA. Our volumes have increased by 35%, and in our CSC1 facility we have broken all sales records and reached revenues unprecedented in the seven years the company has been operating in South Africa. "These targets have been reached through the commitment by cargo service manager Rudi Buitenbos and his staff which has played a valuable role in helping some of the carriers we serve to gain top international awards." Virgin Atlantic was awarded Cargo Airline of the Year by Air Cargo News and Cathay Pacific obtained the CX Global Award for best yield. "Our CSC3 facility, which is now managed by Linda James and houses British Airways World Cargo, has also been recognised," says Hughes. "It has been voted the seventh best station in the airline's global network. Here the staff have the experience of maximising all ULDs, which ultimately positively affects the cargo uplift." Cargo services manager Craig Crozet and his team have contributed positively towards the Cargolux product in South Africa, says Hughes. The airline was voted Global All-Cargo Airline last year and earned ABC UK publication's top award for the fourth year in a row. In addition to handling Cargolux and Hydro Air in Johannesburg, Crozet was recently appointed station manager for Durban and Port Elizabeth. A notable addition to the service was the contract to serve Singapore Airlines at CSC's Durban facility from the beginning of July. The airline will use CSC's cargo system CasCades to manage the movement of all import and export shipments. This, says Hughes, replaces the need to use the carrier's cargo system and is another product to promote 'value added service' within the CSC infrastructure.
