The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport South Africa (Ciltsa) will host a conference focusing on the growing trend towards automated warehousing in a hybrid online and in-person event in Johannesburg in May.

The free conference, themed ‘Warehouse Automation: the benefits and risks’ will take place at The Garden Venue in North Riding and online on 23 May.

Ciltsa president, Elvin Harris, said warehouse automation aimed to automate repetitive and tedious manual tasks in warehousing operations.

“Automation aims to make manual work less labour-intensive to reduce labour costs, increase productivity and accuracy, and improve safety. Our conference will explore the types of both hard and soft warehouse automation solutions, which are designed to speed up various warehouse processes.

“Recent studies have indicated that, while the adoption rate of warehouse automation stood at 8% in 2019, this is set to rise to 45% by 2023,” Harris said.

“The Ciltsa warehousing automation conference aims to provide practical tips and insights on essential things the warehousing team needs to know when exploring the complex and ever-changing world of warehouse automation.
