Colombian authorities have detained a vessel operated by China’s largest shipping group for illegally transporting military equipment.

Officials have arrested the captain of the Da Dan Xia, a Hong Kong registered vessel operated by Cosco and bound for Cuba.

The ship was stopped in the Caribbean port of Cartagena, the attorney general’s office said, where it was found to be carrying around 100 tonnes of powder, 2.6 million detonators, 99 projectiles and around 3 000 cannon shells.

But the cargo was listed in the records of the 28 451t (dwt) ship as grain products, officials said.
