FRENCH LINE CMA CGM is to cancel direct calls in
Durban on its AFEX – Asia – South Africa – West Africa service with effect from May 26.
The last vessel calling Durban will be the CMA
CGM Accra. Sharp competition due
to over-capacity on the Asia-South Africa route is cited as the reason for the move.
“In order to maintain our commitments to our
customers we have been absorbing part of the losses on this trade. With today’s market situation we are not able to maintain this
call any longer,” CMACGM
Agencies’ GM Pam Yerushalmy told FTW.
“We are looking at alternatives that will allow
us to continue offering the route as well as the SA – West Africa link,” she said.
