Civil Aviation Authority Board Member Nomination

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) is a national public entity established in terms of the Civil Aviation Act, Its mandate is to control and regulate civil aviation safety and security, oversee the implementation and compliance with the National Aviation Security Programme, oversee the functioning and development of the civil aviation industry, promote civil aviation safety and security, develop any regulations that are required in terms of the Act and monitor and ensure compliance with the Act and the International Civil Aviation Convention.
The Authority has a Board which in terms of the Civil Aviation Act has to provide, amongst others, the strategic direction and oversee the corporate governance of the Authority in order to attain the mandate. The members of the Board are part time, hold office for a period not exceeding three years and are accountable to the Minister of Transport. In terms of the Act, the Minister of Transport is required to appoint seven members to the Board. Amongst the persons that the Minister appoints shall be persons with suitable expertise in human resource management, representatives of the civil aviation industry with suitable financial and operational expertise and a person with civil aviation acknowledged technical competencies involved in organised labour from the aviation industry.
The nominations are due by 11 August 2014.
