The Kwazulu Natal Accociation of Freight Forwarders, Harbour Carriers and Warehousemen urges all importers and exporters who operate from within 110 km radius of the Port of Durban, to act with caution if approached by Portnet to enter into contracts with them for the transportation of containers to or from the Durban Container Terminal.
The above Association has been successful in a Supreme Court action to have the Container Terminal completely opened to private hauliers. Portnet have appealed against this decision and the Appellate
division will hear this appeal within the next 2 to 3 months. If Portnet are unsuccessful, importers and exporters will be free to
negotiate service and price levels with
transporters of their choice.
