ED RICHARDSON
SOUTH AFRICA’S automotive component exports rose to R22 978 million in 2005, compared with the R21 502 million earned in 2004. According to the 2005 export figures from the National Association of Automotive Component and Allied Manufacturers (Naacam), export revenue was the highest for catalytic converters, which saw an income of R9 935 million. This is higher than the R 8 289 million earned in 2004. While export income from seat parts and leather seats gained the second highest revenue, of R2 693 million in 2005, this was a decline of R420 million compared to sales in the previous year.
