ZOLILE TINI was inducted as the Border-Kei Chamber of Business president in East London recently, the first black person to hold the position in the Chamber's 125 year history.
Describing his election as 'one of the fruits of democracy', he said he planned to pursue further transformation in the chamber. "It will not be lip service," he said. "I will, during my tenure, look at equal representation on the executive committee."
There will also be another demanding issue awaiting the new president. He will be host to the annual South African Chamber of Business (Sacob) annual convention, which is to be held in East London this year, from October 16-18.
Tini succeeds outgoing president Phillip Kahts.
The annual meeting was addressed by guest speaker Chris Hoare, Nationwide Airlines marketing director, who recently opened the airline's seventh domestic route with a daily service between Johannesburg and East London.
