BORDER BEAT: Free flow at Nakonde after isolated incidents

Fears of unrest during last week’s Zambian election did not materialise, and there appears to be little concern of transport disruptions on inauguration day.

It was a landslide victory for opposition candidate Hakainde Hichilema, whodefeated his main rival, the outgoing President Edgar Lungu, by more than a million votes.

It was his sixth attempt at winning the presidency.

Social media and messaging apps, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Twitter, were shut down in the country on election day – and while there was some tension at Nakonde border post yesterday, it was all clear by this morning.
