On 06 August 2024, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) called for comment on the proposed amendments to Schedule No.5 to the Customs and Excise Act, 1964 as follows:
- Part 2 of Schedule No. 5 – Substitution of refund item 522.07/00.00/01.00 in Part 2 of Schedule No. 5 to amend Note 1(d) to include the references to “or a licensed marine remover”; and
- Part 4 of Schedule No. 5 – Substitution of refund item 54101/00.00/01.00 in Part 4 of Schedule No. 5 to amend Note 1(a) to exclude the removal of bonded fuel goods as contemplated in rule 21.05A.06(a)(iii) by sea from the customs supervision proviso, as well as Note 1(d) to include the transportation by “a licensed marine remover”.
