Governments must ensure that they have comprehensive aviation and airport development planning in place to leverage growing e-commerce opportunities.
That’s the view of International Civil Aviation Organisation (Icao) secretary general, Dr Fang Liu, who believes the overall preparedness of countries and regions – in terms of compliance, infrastructure capacity and airport multimodal connectivity – will play a key role in their ability to leverage growing e-commerce operations to their full economic benefit.
This as nearly 90% of business-to-consumer global e-commerce transactions are delivered by air.
She pointed out that commercial aircraft were the only shipping mode available to satisfy the expectations of modern consumers for same-day or next-day deliveries.
“This explains why it is so important for those air transport priorities to be strategically integrated into states’ overall national and urban development objectives,” she added.
