In a terse press statement on Facebook, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) Lesotho has announced that it is to shut its outlets in the landlocked Mountain Kingdom with immediate effect due to avian flu fears in South Africa and unspecified Lesotho government moves to counter the spread of it into the country.
“Our supply chain has been severely impacted due to unexpected government regulations. Food quality and safety remain our number one priority. We can confirm that KFC Lesotho currently procures its poultry products from certified farms in South Africa that are tested independently and daily to ensure the poultry is free of avian flu.
“We will continue to engage the relevant stakeholders and hope to reach a resolution as soon as possible,” its statement read.
