Argun saga heads for countdownRay Smuts |
THE SAGA of the arrested Russian fleet replenishment vessel Argun, focus of much intrigue including talk of Russian Mafiosi involvement and an alleged suicide attempt by a senior ship's officer, seems to be heading for a final countdown. A provisional Cape High Court order to sell the neat-as-a-pin vessel has been granted with the consent of the vessel's owners, the Russian Federation, and it seems likely barring any opposition that the sale order will be confirmed toward the end of the month, after which she is likely to be auctioned on May 23 by the Michael James Organisation. A sale estimate of between US$1,2 million and US$1,5 million has been mooted and keen interest is being shown in the vessel by international and South African players. Copyright Now Media (Pty) Ltd |
