Angolan refinery construction on track for 2022 completion

Sonangol president, Carlos Saturnino.

Angola’s planned oil refinery in Cabinda is due to start operating in 2022, with negotiations for the construction almost finalised, according to the state oil company Sonangol.

Sonangol president, Carlos Saturnino, said in a statement “there are very advanced negotiations with the consortium regarding the financial part of the project”, as well as for the equipment and the construction.

The construction of the Cabinda refinery – which will have a daily processing capacity of 60 000 barrels of crude oil – was awarded to the United Shine consortium.

Last year Sonangol announced plans to build two new oil refineries – one in Cabinda and one in Lobito – to reduce the country’s dependence on imports.
