Import service now on the cards

THE RIGHT product and the right marketing medium and you’re dressed for success. That in a nutshell is the story of International Cargo Gateway which began marketing its road feeder service for airfreight cargo in February this year through the medium of FTW and FTNow, and has never looked back, according to Florence Ross who heads up the company. Because cargo capacity on aircraft is often restricted, and road links to many overborder destinations make good sense, ICG removes cargo in bond when it arrives at Johannesburg International Airport and roadhauls it to its final destination. “The response has been so overwhelming that we’re now considering a southbound service as well,” says Ross. “After our exposure in FTW and FTNow, we had calls from the DRC, Zambia, Tanzania Malawi and Mozambique to move cargo from that end as well,” she said. “The reaction has been tremendous. Our trucks are filled to capacity - offering consolidations and full loads - and a lot more airlines and freight forwarders are now coming on board.” The service is marketed as a neutral option for airlines and freight forwarders who sell their service on a door-to-door basis. ICG serves Swaziland, Lesotho, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, DRC, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi and Angola.
