CT service will
be suspended from next April

AIR FRANCE has no intention of withdrawing its service to South Africa, but will fly only to Johannesburg after April 1 next year, says Benoit Guizard, vice-president of marketing for Africa and the Middle East.
Denying reports that the airline was considering withdrawing from the South African route, he said that it would continue flying its new Airbus 340 on regular schedule to Johannesburg, allowing for good cargo space.
The service to Cape Town via Johannesburg is to be suspended next April, he says, but is to be replaced at a later date, still to be announced, with a direct non-stop flight between Paris and Cape Town. The airline is also considering including Durban in future plans, he said.
Harare, as a stop-over point on some of the northern flights, would be discontinued as from November this year, and the Maputo call would be discontinued along with Cape Town in April next year.
In Paris Charles de Gaulle airport, Air France has set up a hub system, allowing swift connections to more than 250 destinations worldwide, he said, including new routes to Cuba and Shanghai.
