Ahrenkiel embarks on major fleet expansion

CHRISTIAN F Ahrenkiel, holding company of multi-purpose Far East operator Ahrenkiel Liner Service, has embarked on a major fleet expansion programme.

The company, whose fleet of owned vessels currently stands at 32, recently took delivery of a 21-knot 1550 teu container carrier, with a sister vessel due in a month's time, both built in Poland.

June saw the arrival of a 6.100 cubic metre chemical tanker from Portugal, with a sister vessel delivered in September.

A third will be delivered in January 1997, a fourth in May, a fifth in September, a sixth in December and a further two during 1998.

The vessels carry a DM 33-million price tag. Two LPG gas carriers are currently under construction in Jakarta. The first will be delivered in July next year, and the second 6-12 months later.
