African exchange rates stable

MOST AFRICAN exchange rates were stable during 2004 - declining at rates lower than their long-term trends, according to Standard Bank’s Africa researcher, Isaac Matshego. “Factors that supported these currencies were mainly strong commodity prices and US dollar weakness,” he said. “This year, indications are that the currencies will remain relatively firm due to a weak US dollar bias.”
