RUSSIAN CARRIER Aeroflot has decided not to recommence flights between Moscow and Johannesburg.
The airline began its service to this country in 1993 but ceased flying 18 months ago. Its Pretoria office remained open, serving as a booking office for charter requirements, particularly in the freighter sector.
Now general manager Alex Shilov has announced that the office has been closed, and any further bookings will have to be made through appointed agents.
The airline will continue its operations between Moscow and other African destinations in Angola, Tunisia and Egypt. The South African service was never profitable, says Shilov.
