According to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) the growth in the volume of world merchandise trade is expected to rebound from its tepid performance in 2016 to 2.4% in 2017.
However, this is based on the assumption that the global economy recovers as expected and governments pursue the right policy mix. Global trade is expected to expand by 2.4% in 2017 and to between 2.1% and 4% in 2018.
