South Africa will know by Wednesday who made the most significant contribution to shipments from South Africa to the United States under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (Agoa) when the Exporter of the Year Awards are held in Irene, just outside Pretoria.
The event is supported by the Department of Trade, Industry and Commerce (DTIC), the US Agency for International Development (USAid), the International Trade Institute of SA (Itrisa), and is intended to recognise top Agoa performers from 2021.
According to Rose Blatch, Executive Director at Itrisa, “It is a high-profile event with nominations having been received from all around SA, high-profile judges, some inspiring speakers, including a previous award winner, a high-level DTIC representative – possibly the minister – the head of USAid in Southern Africa, the judges, and one of America’s best known international trade gurus.”
As with many award ceremonies these days, Blatch said Wednesday’s awards would be a hybrid event but a number of those shortlisted for awards would attend in person.
The event on June 29 starts at 15h00 and will be held at the African Pride Hotel in Irene.
