As part of an ongoing trend, Groupair had recorded a 15% increase in air freight volumes by the end of August compared to the same period last year, said Vernon Lines, MD of the neutral air freight wholesaler. “Our air freight volumes have shown a steady increase over the past two years,” he said, attributing the export growth during this period to service and rate. “We have focused on quick turnaround times when quoting and processing cargo through our warehouse,” he told FTW. “We have also had good success in getting cargo to difficult-toreach destinations through our network of agents around the world.” Lines said import volumes had also shown an increase thanks to the introduction of regular consols from China and Europe. “Boosting our import volumes has seen growth in our Johannesburg transit cargo. Our worldwide agents utilise us for their cargo into our neighbouring states and southern Africa.” According to Lines the company recently launched an online express service to cater for smaller door-to-door shipments as part of an ongoing strategy to expand its offerings to clients. In an effort to keep rates competitive, the company has contracted rates with airlines. And thanks to the ongoing growth, Groupair has outgrown its current facility. Lines said they were in the process of relocating to a fitfor-purpose facility in Pomona, Kempton Park. “The premises are currently being renovated and we’ll move in due course,” he said.
