Zambia Police (ZP) officers operating on the T3 passing through Chingola were said to be stopping trucks making their way to the DRC border earlier today in what seems to be yet another case of extortion on the north-south line.
According to one source they were stopping trucks south on the outskirts of Chingola.
The source told Transist, the transit assistance service of transport watchdog Fesarta, that ZP officials were letting some trucks through while holding back others.
“This is creating a gap in the queue ahead and only ‘certain’ vehicles are being allowed through.”
The source added that it seemed to be a clear case of extortion.
“You pay you pass, you don’t pay you park.”
Transist pledged to approach the Zambian Revenue Authority in a bid to intervene.
