Shipping shortfalls at the oft weather-bound Port of Cape Town, specifically the challenges it poses to wine exports, will come under the spotlight at an Exporters Western Cape (EWC) event this Thursday.

The keynote speaker will be Rico Basson, CEO of SA Wine, an amalgamated body formed to “ensure that South Africa secures its rightful place on the global stage”, an EWC statement said.

EWC chair Terry Gale said: “The wine industry is one of the major employers in the Western Cape and a source of export revenue.”

Lauding Basson’s efforts to place all related viticultural industries under one umbrella and motivated by the motto, “Diversity in a glass”, Gale said: “The future bodes well for our world-class wine.”

Part of what will be highlighted on Thursday is “how the amalgamation of SA Wine came about, why as well as the benefits of co-operation and collaboration.”

The function will be held at the Webber Wentzel CTICC building, Heerengracht, 1t5th floor, Convention Tower Foreshore, Cape Town.

Parking is available on level three.
