THE TRANSPORT Education and Training Authority (TETA) is particularly proud of the increase in the number of smaller companies that have taken up the challenge of training, says CEO Piet Bothma.
Many have been lured into the system by TETA’s revolutionary voucher system for companies that employ 49 or less employees, he said. Using this system, companies participating in training are reimbursed for the costs in tranches at different stages of the training. As this was a discretionary allocation, the reimbursement processing time was reduced significantly.
Last year smaller forwarding and clearing companies were given this incentive to begin training in specific skills for the forwarding, clearing and ships’ agency sectors. The training programmes were structured for the convenience of both the employer and employee.
“We have 450 000 learners that have benefited either with full or part learnerships to date. Considering we have a staff of just 45 nationwide, this is a significant achievement and our attitude is very positive,” he concluded.
