Exports to out-of- the-way destinations a speciality
SOUTH AFRICAN shipping companies and traders who need help with their shipping problems can now call on 60 years of shipping expertise through the recently-established, diversified marine services company, Marint Southern Africa.
The people behind the venture include Peter Potgieter, Terry Groves and Paul Pelizzari, all veterans of the Unicorn Group and now 'going it alone'.
"The kind of work in which we have been involved to date covers exports to out-of-the-way destinations not served by regular liner operators, and cargo moving between two foreign ports where we have been able to assist with freight rates and shipping opportunities," Pelizzari told FTW.
"We are also in a position to charter vessels for larger parcels, arrange inland transportation, assist with the surveying and stevedoring aspects, help with ships'/owners' agency requirements, and generally help first time exporters and importers with the intricacies of shipping."
And Pellizzari believes that the experience of the directors is the company's greatest asset.
Cape Town-based Peter Potgieter is the specialist in salvage, ship management and surveying. He is a master mariner who left Unicorn after 22 years and ran, managed and marketed the Unicorn Offshore division before leaving to set up Marint Southern Africa in 1993.
Terry Groves recently resigned from Grincor Management Services after 17 years, while Pellizzari spent 20 years with the Grincor Group. He will look after the trading, cargo broking and shipping side of the business.
¥ Marint Southern Africa is the holding company for Afrisud, which is involved in ship management, salvage and currently manages two sophisticated offshore vessels on behalf of Swire Pacific of Singapore; Marint Technical Procurement which looks after trade between South Africa and India; and PDP Agencies which installs, services and sells Westfalia milking machines.
