The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (Sanral) will completely close the N3 to traffic to facilitate blasting opposite the Peacevale Interchange for half an hour on 23 May.

Sanral said this week that the road would be closed between 14h30 and 15h00 to facilitate the work on the N3 Section 2 Realignment Project.

“The N3 closure will take place between the M13/N3 split and the Hammarsdale Interchange,” Sanral said.

The following secondary roads in the vicinity of the blasting activities will also be closed: Meadway Road at Thousand Hills Street intersection; Sterkspruit Road at Capital Hill Drive intersection and the D706 Road to Peacevale.

“Our traffic accommodation team, with the assistance of the Road Traffic Inspectorate, will manage and monitor the diversion of traffic during all sessions,” said Sanral Eastern Region Project Manager, Jason Lowe.

The full road closures scheduled are proposed to take place according to the following schedule:

  • 14h30-14h45: Close N3 and secondary roads and blast.
  • 14h45-15h00: Clean up debris on the N3 and secondary roads.
  • 15h00 – Reopen N3 and secondary roads to all vehicles.

The R103 will be available as an alternative route during the blast. However, substantial delays are likely as the R103 is unable to handle the same volume of traffic as the N3.

“We ask motorists to be patient during the closure and to plan their route trips to accommodate the closure while adhering to speed limits. Sanral apologises to the motoring public for any inconvenience caused during road construction,” said Lowe.

Sanral noted that the closure might need to be adjusted depending on weather conditions on the day. If that happens a second notice with new closure information times will be issued.
