Forwarding heavyweight addresses MITB graduates in Durban
SOUTH AFRICA is fortunate to have a soulmate in the form of the South African Development Community which has forged a common market and the local community should take advantage of the customs unions agreements that some of those countries would form.
That was the message from Issa Baluch, president of the United Arab Emirates National Committee of Freight Forwarders and Vice President of FIATA. He headed up a delegation from the UAE last week for the graduation of the Maritime Industry Training Board: Forwarding and Clearing students in Durban.
Baluch told students that South Africa was facing exciting and challenging trends in the freight forwarding industry.
You must take heart from organisations such as the Arab Gulf Co-operation Council. We, here as the National Committee of Freight Forwarders, Dubai, can be of assistance by bringing our own experience from lobbying for greater facilitation of trade in the region that we come from. And you can, through your country's freight forwarding association, push for greater interaction with FIATA, he said.
Baluch said that the day was more than a graduation day, it was the complete refocusing of the students' vision, of making professional competency and learning a continuous part of their lives.
