Durban’s demand for warehousing space has remained steady, leading to a spurt of new developments across the city in recent months.
Global logistics service provider, Rhenus Group, is among the latest firms to develop a new storage warehouse in the city with the launch of a 7 700-sqm facility north of Durban. The addition expands the firm’s warehousing capacity in the city by approximately 50%, to more than 24 000 square metres, in just two years.
The warehouse is strategically located at Northfield Business Park, 21km from King Shaka International Airport and 24km from the Durban Container Terminal.
Rhenus South Africa’s KwaZulu Natal Regional Director, Kishore Kanayelal, said increased demand for warehouse space and additional service offerings had driven strong growth in the region.
“We are proud that we have created more than a hundred new jobs to service the demand in our area. These additional 7 700 sqm strengthen our local capabilities significantly.”
He said the warehouse’s offering of cross-docking would lead to more efficient goods handling, reduced labour costs and accelerated delivery times.

He said the firm was enlarging its portfolio of individual solutions and value-added services for the automotive, healthcare, food and beverage sector and aimed to attract new clients across a range of sectors. The warehouse offers solutions such as loading and offloading, packing, cross-docking, picking, and capability to handle food graded items.
