Protest action near the Diepkloof Interchange in Gauteng disrupted road freight on the N1 Western Bypass and N12 this morning, June 26.
According to the Transit Assistance Bureau, traffic heading northwest on the N12 was turning around on the highway and heading back southeast on the other side of the highway towards Kliprivier Road.
Contraflow traffic was also reported on the M1 near Xavier Street towards Johannesburg.
It’s not clear what led to the protests.
About a week ago, violent protests near the Diepkloof Hostel turned the area into a no-go zone.
Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) battled to contain the unrest sparked by residents of Soweto, many of whom stripped down to voice their opposition against the lack of service delivery.
In several incidents, trucks were stopped, had their cargo looted and set alight.
