Better systems translate into
more informed decisions, and a
recent new software package for
the meat industry in the Western
Cape demonstrates the point,
says Anthea van Breemen of
systems developer Macro 2000
“There is no escaping
the so-called credit crisis,
but companies that will survive
are the companies that offer the
best customer service,” she told
FTW. “And a good computer
system can make the difference
– which became clear when
Macro implemented cold store
software in the meat industry in
the Western Cape recently.
“The software handles
stock by customers for third
party storage. Stock receipt
and issue is controlled by
batch, which can be anything
from a container number to
a customer specified number
that batches all the pallets
for that receipt together,” she
explained. “In the meat trading
or manufacturing environment
this is important as the Macro
2000 system will invoice
the customer by this batch
number, which is beneficial
for costing purposes. There
are also secondary controls
by individual pallet whereby
the expiry date and production
dates can be recorded and
reported on for that individual
pallet. It is critical to pick and
issue the correct pallets when
a customer calls off the stock
and this can be done using any
of the receiving controls put in
place.”
All of this, she said,
ultimately allows the customer
to deliver a better service.
