A youth development programme designed to address the skills deficit in the supply chain field has just been launched.

An initiative of Sapics, the professional body for supply chain management, it aims to ensure that young professionals are industry-ready for job opportunities in the sector.

“South Africa is currently facing a youth unemployment crisis, while at the same time experiencing a deepening supply chain skills shortage across many sectors,” says Kholofelo Mabila, a third-year student at Unisa who is heading up the Sapics Young Professional Committee which is driving the programme.

“It provides valuable exposure to a community of experts and professionals in the industry working in diverse areas and different levels of the supply chain profession,” says Mabila.

For an annual fee of R250, scholars, graduates and young professionals will regularly receive articles and information pertinent to them and enjoy other membership benefits, including free attendance at Sapics webinars and the annual Sapics Young Professional Conference which will be a virtual event on August 26. It will be held alongside the 43rd annual Sapics Conference.
