New Ndola international airport ready to fly

Wide-bodied aircraft will be able to f ly into the Zambian Copperbelt with the opening of the new Copperbelt International Airport outside Ndola.The new facility, with a 3 500-metre runway and 12 000-square-metre terminal building, will be able to handle a million passengers and 8 000 tons of freight a year.It is 16 kilometres from the existing Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport in Ndola.Built at a cost of $400 million, there is room to increase the cargo-handling facilities as demand increases. The airport was designed and constructed by AVIC International with funding from the Export-Import Bank of China.It was inaugurated early in August by former president Edgar Lungu.
