The Western Cape’s Franschhoek Pass – which experienced heavy rockfalls about two months ago – is set to re-open by the end of September this year “if everything goes according to plan”.

Jandré Bakker, head of communications at the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works, said contractors have been appointed to do rock barring and other necessary remedial work.

On June 22 a motorist escaped serious injury when massive boulders rained down on his car during a rockslide. Another rockfall occurred a few days later and the pass was closed.
