CUSTOMISED BENEFITS and cost-savings are key elements in retaining and growing business in an increasingly competitive market, according to Vernon Lines, MD of Consolidation & Wholesale Cargo (CWC), Flexibility and speed of transit feature high on his priority list. “In excess of 90% of our shipments are sent to our customers’ overseas agents or to the consignee of their choice on a wholesale basis without consolidating, and at no extra cost,” he says. “The competition consolidates goods by sending shipments once or twice a week. If we get cargo on a Monday we get it out by Tuesday and most of our business goes on that basis,” says Lines. Some 40% of its business is concentrated in Africa, and growing, mainly to Kenya, Nigeria, Angola Zambia and Mauritius, says Lines. Now in its 3rd year, the Durban operation offers an airfreight consolidation and wholesale service while import forwarding is also available in Johannesburg and Durban. The company also offers a freight collect and charges collect service as well as DDP (delivered duly paid) and DDU (delivered duly unpaid) to most destinations, with an effective monitoring regime on all freight.
