Uli Hatesohl . . . offering 800 export destinations Alan Peat IN JUST 13 years, CFR Freight has grown from a one-man-show into one of the major players in the SA consolidation market. Today it employs 60 people at its five-office SA chain, in Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, with its brand new airfreight office at Jet Park. Also, MD Uli Hatesohl told FTW, in October the Johannesburg head office is to move into new premises currently being constructed in Linbro Office Park. “That makes us pretty excited,” he said. “It obviously supplies us with more space, custom-built to match our current and future requirements, and at the same time it’s our own property.” Another indication of CFR’s present growth rate, Hatesohl added, comes from the company’s figures for 2002. “Although imports are still a little stronger than exports, exports are fast catching up.” Highlighting this, CFR’s exports grew by 50% in 2002, while imports increased by 20%. “And this year is following the same path,” Hatesohl added, “with increasing volumes of cargo flowing through our system in both directions.” CFR Freight’s consolidation network is now truly worldwide, according to Hatesohl. “Europe is still our strongest market both for imports and exports. But on exports, for example, we offer 800 destinations. “You name it - North America, the Far East, especially China, and elsewhere - they’re all part of our business nowadays.”
