GETTING MORE freight industry personnel onto the golf course in a competitive spirit is the aim of Les Hicks, South African Express Line (SAEL) airfreight manager, who wants to see more corporate golf days scheduled at the Kempton Park Golf Club.
The location of the course, he says, is ideal for the industry, most of whom are based in the East Rand.
"Four-ball competition plans are underway for the freight industry," he says. "We have arranged a deal with the club's management for reduced rates for corporate golf days, and there are even reduced membership fees available for individuals from the industry who are interested."
The course has been the setting in the past for the South African Freight Forwarders' Association annual golf day and a Mariners' tournament.
Golfers in general from within the industry are aware of the facilities available, he says, and with this in mind the club is planning a competition schedule in which freight companies can meet on a regular basis.
