EC airport completes first phase of upgrades

Mthatha Airport has completed its new runway – as part of a major refurbishment project launched in 2009.
An upgrade of the terminal building and revamped security features are also in the pipeline. “Once completed, the airport should meet all requirements of a modern, safe and secure airport in terms of national laws and in accordance with international regulations,” said outgoing Minister of Transport, Ben Martins, addressing media at the launch of the runway earlier this week.
