CUSTOMS AND Excise officials swooped on PE harbour last week.

Operation Knock, conducted by eight customs officials and two border control police members, kicked off in a bid to clamp down on importers who are deliberately taking chances and evading customs duty payments.

C&E assistant director Johan Scheepers said the aim of the operation was to target depot operators in PE.

In the operation hundreds of parcels and crates were opened and compared with their documented declarations. One border import company must pay about R30 000 in outstanding duty fees.
